Maintenance income test and rent assistance

HI,
I discovered something really weird about rent assistance payments today. Apparently an income test is applied to determine how much rent assistance can be paid to an individual. The cut off is somewhere around $94,000 per year. However there is also a maintenance income test and if a single parent receives child support from the other parent, rent assistance is also subject to the maintenance income test. I don't know what the exact figures are but I have been paid under $2 in rent assistance since I started receiving child support for my 2 girls and only today just discovered that my maintenance income rest reduces it to that. The thing is, between my centre link payments and child support, my income before tax is less than $44,000. It seems highly unfair that my rent assistance payment is reduced to almost zero with such a low income when families with much higher income comes are eligible to receive more rent assistance. Is there something I can do to get the policy changed to scrap the maintenance income test?
